Arctic Fox Kit

Arctic Fox(Alopex lagopus). We came across this fox kit(pup) near the town of St George in the Pribilof Islands. Although mostly white during winter months, most Arctic Fox are dark gray to blue-brown in the summer. These animals are considered native to the Pribilofs, having crossed the ice pack in winter long before humans commonly inhabiitted the islands. Adults can weigh as much as 15 pounds. Arctic foxes are scavengers, eating small rodents, bird eggs, insects and berries as well as carion.
