DEJA VU
Following the lead of Mt. Augustine, which erupted in 2006 after 20 years of dormancy, Mt Redoubt celebrated it's 20 years of silence by erupting in March of 2009, reprising its 1989 explosion. The initial eruption send ash and steam more than 50,000 feet into the atmosphere. More than 20 smaller eruptions have followed, and as of mid-April, 2009, the thermal satellite data showed a lava dome growing in the summit area. So more explosive activity was expected. Mt Redoubt is located on the west side of the Cook Inlet, southwest of Anchorage.
