Near Anchor Point, Alaska, where this image was captured on Winter Solstice, the days rarely have more than 5 hours of light. For many residents of Alaska, the celebration of Winter solstice is a bigger event than the traditional year-end holidays; it marks the day when the sun once again starts its journey back to the North, ending the over-bearing darkness of Winter in high latitudes.
