Abstract
Raptors - Image Description

On Guard

A northern Hawk owl defends his recently murdered snowshoe hare. Northern Hawk Owls inhabit the spruce and aspen forrests of interior Alaska. They subsist on rodents including hares that are often larger than they are. This hare was so large that the owl could only drag it along the ground as he tried to shield it from the jays and magpies that wanted to share his feast. Weight 12 oz, wingspan 28"
