Letting Off Steam...
Mount Redoubt in the Alaskan Peninsula. In early 2009, after 20 years of dormancy and following a months-long period of seismic hyper-activity, Mount Redoubt erupted. For nearly a month there were frequent, subsequent eruptions, dumping ash on everything downwind and disrupting air-traffic into and out of Alaska. By the time this photo was taken on the 16th of April, 2009, the worst was over. The steaming continued inter-mittently through early summer.
