Mount Augustine
A steam plume rises from Mount Augustine late on a summer day. In 2006, after 20 years of dormancy, Mt Augustine erupted, sending steam and ash 50,000ft into the air. Air traffic was severely disrupted. Ash fell over much of the Kenai and Alaskan peninsulas. A steam plume can still frequently be seen rising from the volcano. This image was taken from Diamond Ridge, near Homer, Alaska.
