Least Auklet

Aethia pusilla. The smallest of alcids and the smallest of Aiklets, this is an adult in breeding plumage, photographed on St George island. Least Auklets winter off the coast of Alaska, returning to nesting sites in the Aleutians and Pribilofs in May and June. They live in large, noisy colonies. Diet is zooplankton. length 6 inches, wingspan 12 inches, weight 3 ounces.
