Northern Fulmar
Fulmarus glacialis. This light phase Northern Fulmar was photographed near Adak island in the Aleutians. Length 18 inches, wingspan 42 inches, weight roughly 1.25 pounds. Part of a group of birds known as "tube-noses", Fulmars have glands in their nasal tubes that fliter salt, allowing them to drink seawater.
