Snow Bunting
Plectrophenax nivalis. This plump little guy is a male in breeding plumage, photographed on St George island in July. Snow Buntings spend summers in arctic regions and winter in southern Canada and the northern U.S. They nest in rocky, bare areas. They forrage on insects, seeds and leaf buds. length 7 inches, wingspan 14 inches, weight 2 ounces
