Transition
Lepus americanus. This snowshoe hare is transitioning between his summer coat, brown, and his winter coat, white. They are extremely prolific, having two to three litters per year, averaging 4-6 young per litter. A major source of food for a wide range of predators, hare populations cycle from high abundance to scarcity. Predator populations mirror the rise and the fall of the hare population.
