Bear Snack
Spermophilus parryi. Found throughout Alaska, Arctic ground squirrels can survive in alpine and arctic tundra, in bushy meadows, riverbanks, lakeshores, and sandbanks. They hibernate in the winter and use stored food after awakening while waiting for spring plants to grow. The Arctic ground squirrel hibernates for up to seven months, from September through April.
